Callie
OAB-D-M331

Callie our precious filly by our wonderful German bred Trakehner stallion, Kosake, out of Candy Coated an approved Anglo-Trakehner mare, was born on June 21, 1999. We had waited several years until we felt settled enough at our new farm in Northern Florida before breeding Kosake again.

Candy Coated took easily and before the eleven months gestation period was completed we were blessed with Callie. Like both of her parents Callie possesses a fantastic personality, gaits, attitude and rideability. She has the dark brown almost black coat of her mother and great grandfather, Donaushimmer. Callie has been schooled successfully through First Level dressage. Callie and I are working on our quadrille, parade, and safety techniques since she will follow in her dad’s footsteps as a mounted patrol horse as well as continuing to travel up the levels in dressage.

Kosake, Callie’s sire, was imported from Germany. He was bred by Manfred Haertel of Porta Westfalica, Germany. From the very moment Kosake entered our lives he has been the perfect horse. Horse men and women say that you get one great horse in a life time and Kosake is this one great horse for me. He is by Hexer out of Kathinka III, who was from the Family D Kassette 690 Hauptgestuet Trakehnen. Hexer was by Siegel out of Heia and Kathinka III was by Frohsinn out of the PR. ST. Kantilene, a gray foaled in 1962. Kantilene’s lineage travels back to the excellent old lines of Traumgeist XX and Kasavit. The Siegel line can be traced back to Totilas.

Kosake competed successfully through Fourth Level dressage, was Grand Champion of Miami Dade Dressage, third in the region and is now retired and works at breeding, trail riding, fun dressage for friends, and as a mounted patrol horse.

Candy Coated was an approved Anglo-Trakehner mare by Donaushimmer, a dark brown, black stallion foaled in 1969 by Valentin, out of Donauinsel by Poet XX. As quoted from the Trakehner Horses Then and Now written by Fritz Schilke, “Donauschimmer represents one of the most successful sires as well as dam lines of the Trakehner breed in the USA.”

Scarlett Breeze xx PSB-B-M389

Scarlet Breeze was foaled in Valdosta, Georgia, at Lone Oak Farm, April 7, 1998. Lone Oak Farm is a Thoroughbred racing farm owned by Faye and Larry Altman. Breeze, as we call her at Joint Venture Farm, is by Wood, B.C. out of Dream Fancy.

Dream Fancy, a chestnut Thoroughbred mare, by Forward Charger who was by Native Charger, is an accomplished dressage horse who was owned by Charise Pelham, a good friend of the Altman’s. The Altman’s leased Dream Fancy from Charise to breed to their Thoroughbred stallion Wood, B.C. Dream Fancy has excellent racing lineage because she is by Forward Charger who was by Native Charger.

Wood, B.C, Breeze’s sire, is by Lord Gaylord who was by Sir Gaylord. Sir Gaylord babies were successful in the show ring as hunters and jumpers. Wood’s half sister, Jesse B, was high point jumper at Upperville, Virginia and Washington International. Wood’s dam, Fernwood Forest, was by Fern Dancer(Native Dancer) out of Azula Ruler(Bold Ruler). Finer lineage is hard to find!

Wood who was a 16’2 hand bay stallion, came to the Altman’s and Lone Oak Farm from Duck Martin, Green Spring Valley’s Master of Fox Hounds in West Virginia, to be a sire for field hunters. His athleticism and superior disposition has been passed on to his get, creating successful field hunters, winning racehorses and show horses.

One day while visiting the Altman’s I came upon this big, beautiful, bay mare in the Altman’s pasture. I immediately asked Faye about the mare, but learned that she wasn’t for sale. I was looking for a mare to breed to my Trakehner stallion, Kosake, since I had just lost the beautiful Donaushimmer mare I would normally breed Kosake to.

A few weeks later, Faye telephoned to say she was ready to sell Scarlet Breeze to me. Excitedly, I asked Faye if she would bring Scarlet Breeze to the American Trakehner Association inspection/approvals I was having. She agreed to get Breeze ready and if she was approved I would buy her. Breeze passed the inspection process with 8’s on Type and Frame and has become an approved ATA Preliminary Stud Book (PSB) mare.

Breeze is the mother of our gorgeous colt, Sedona and is soon to be bred to our Trakehner stallion, Apache. While in our mare pasture, Breeze can be seen doing 360 degree turns with a capriole at the end and bathing herself in the water trough while pawing the water out of it….the Altman’s have a pond in their pasture that Breeze misses!

Kailem OSB-A-M2139

Kailem OSB-A-M2139

In 1995, we decided to bid on several stallions in the ATA Futurity. We were very lucky to win a breeding to the wonderful ATA and Canadian approved Trakehner stallion Advocate*Ps*, by Graditz*E*, out of Arabeske by Abdullah*Pg*E* bred by John Kinder of Haywagon Farms in St. Chairsville, OH and owned by Allen and Kim MacMillan and Family, Loon Creek Enterprises, Huntington, IN.

Kailem's sire, Advocate*Ps* is a sought after breeding stallion who is always in the top ten of the ATA Mares Bred List and winning in jumper competitions through Open and Grand Prix levels. He won his ATA Performance Silver for his efforts in many Grand Pris, Welcome Stakes, Speed and Gamblers Choice classes and numerous regional, state and national awards. Advocate*Ps* was invited to work with both US Olympic Jumping Team Chef d’Equipe George Morris and Olympian Anne Kursinski. Advocate has also been approved by several warmblood registries such as the ATA, IRS/OldenburgNA, and the Canadian Sport Horse Association.

Advocate’s offspring have won or placed well in many prestigious shows and events north and south of the US and Canadian border. Advocate*Ps* has 115 registered get, 17 are in the Official Studd Book including his approved son, Malachi, and 16 mares with 1 in the Preliminary Stud Book.

Kailem's dam, Kataliina(Kastella) was bred by Manfred Haertel in Westfalica, Germany and was imported to the US by Jeff and myself. She is the full sister to our wonderful Trakehner stallion , Kosake. Kat is by Hexer out of Kathinka III, who was from the Family D. Kassette 690, Hauptgestuet Trakehnen. Hexer was by Siegel out of Heia and Kathinka III was by Frohsinn out of PR ST Kantilene which can be traced back to Traumgeist and Kasavit. Hexer’s sire Siegel can also be traced back to the very famous stallion Totilas.

On May 30, 1997 at Joint Venture Farm in the Redlands of Miami, Florida, we had just purchased the farm in North Florida and things were incredibly hectic for me as we prepared for the move. I was also still leading an elementary school as Assistant Principal, but that morning, before I left for work, I expectantly checked in on Kat… no foal. Jeff left for work after me and checked again….but still no foal. Our daughter, Ali had farm chores that day. Stumbling down to the barn to feed the horses, she looked into Kat’s stall and immediately ran all the way back to the house to call us, “There’s an extra set of legs in Kat’s stall!!” she panted excitedly. Needless to say we rushed home to find Kailem!

Kailem was prepared through a solid First Level and beginning Second Level in dressage to compete in the Futurity, but an unexpected growth spurt caused her to be laid off for several months prohibiting her from performing. We are now hoping for Kailem to produce our next approved Trakehner stallion from our incredible approved American and Canadian Trakehner stallion, Apache*Pb*!

Kailem is an approved Trakehner mare, who has been successfully trained through Second Level dressage and Hunter 3'6. At the present time, Kailem is preparing to give us our first Apache*Pb* colt for the 2009 breeding season!
